If you are looking for an experience that will blow your mind, head to the Addo Elephant National Park near Port Elizabet, South Africa. Here you can drive your own vehicle through the park on hard-pack trails and observe the animals close up. I was both in awe and intimidated by this herd of elephants our group came across.
The matriarch of the group, seen in the foreground of this photo, kept a close eye on our car making sure the baby elephant among them never got too close. She was an incredibly large animal standing at least 16 feet tall. She made it pretty clear that she would protect the baby from us at all costs. We made sure we didn't give her any reason to do so. I was only about 6 feet away from these beautiful animals shooting through my car window. I could have watched them for hours. Wow!
